Why RUGBY?Rugby satisfies my instincts to run hard and fast, play as a very close team and as an individual, use brains as well as brawn. Break the opposition and then have fun and get drunk with them afterwards...and there´s that winning feeling...
Since Harry was able to do anything, he has always been into Sport... His parents, being former athletes themselves encouraged him and his siblings in all aspects. So after moving to UK at the age of 6, Harry and his brother started playing rugby for a local Under 8´s team, as well as representing his City, School and County in swimming, Athletics and Gymnastics. During his early teens he needed to cut down on the amount of sports due to time and overtraining, so he focused on Rugby, and continued doing athletics in the off-season. From Ammanford RFC U14´s, Harry moved to a more successful Youth team, which won the Youth League in North and South Wales, and in the schools league, reached the finals in 2 successive years. He also represented and played with Welsh Crawshays and attended Wales development team camp befoe having to leave for University. During University he played for his Uni first team, and English Eastern counties, and earned full colours and was nominated for player of the year, 2 out of 3 years of his time in University. Now playing in Wales Division 1 League, but looking to enter Premiership next season. According to Harry, “the great thing about playing rugby is the bond between the whole team, on and off the field, and playing for Philippines Rugby has been the strongest bond within a team that I´ve played for before”. My aim is to get Philippines into the top 5 teams of Asia, and move further on and up Worldwide, in 15´s and 7´s rugby.
Name: Austin Emil Dacanay
Nickname: N/A
Age: 32
Date of Birth: Sept. 6, 1976
Current City: Tampa, FL
Heritage: 100% Pinoy, or Fullblood...tap, tap, pause, tapos, heart.
Team: Philppine National Team via Tampa Krewe RFC
Positioned Played: Loosehead Prop
Rugby Hero: Tana Umaga....and Jake Letts. xoxoxo
Interesting Skill: I once drank a lava lamp. The whole thing
Why RUGBY? Cause I was not tall enough to play basketball, like most pinoys, not fast enough to run track, like the itims, and not co-ordinated enough to play baseball or cricket like the putes, so rugby was all that was left. And oh yeah, and you can punch someone in the face and not go to jail.
According to Austin.. “Rugby was like a very bad cruise...when you first get on the boat, the food is laid out perfectly, the pool looks great, and the pinoy hosts are one in a million. But once the ship gets out to sea, and starts rocking back and forth and hits the 100 foot swells, all you wanna do is barf. Rugby is a great sport, and has been good to me in my career at the national, international and professional levels” but when he thinks about all of the games he´s played, all the injuries he has accrued, all the partying he has done, all of the characters he has met, and all the money he has spent, it makes him wanna barf...but when Austin thinks about being one of the Sons of Lapu Lapu, it makes him proud.
