The Extinct Volcanoes have successfully defended the Coffin Dodgers Category of the famous Phuket 10's Rugby Tournament two years running and are determined to win the Hat Trick and claim their Third title at the 2009 Phuket 10's.
The Extinct Volcanoes were formed by Matt Cullen who rallied a group of current and retired Philippine National players who were all over the age of 35 years. the first tow by the Extinct Volcanoes was in 2007 and the team won a class fought competition in Phuket. The most memorable moment of this tour was during the semi-final when the Volcanoes were losing 10-5 and had to receive the ball for the kick-off, knowing that it was the last play of the game. The opponent kicked the ball deep to Chris Hartley, who found Matt Cullen running wide, Cullen was able to make a breakaway ran and with three players engulfing him in a tackle, found the bruising Romain Barberis sprinting up the midfield to accept a pass in his left hand, and the fly to score under the posts and seal a spot in the final.
In 2008, it was a combination of Max "Zoolander" Wright and John "Muscles" Munro who absolutely smashed the opposition forwards with submission and setting the platform for back-to-back championships at the Phuket 10's.
The Extinct Volcanoes have now two victorious tours to Phuket and have not lost a game. Their dominance was displayed in last year's tournament when the Extinct Volcanoes scored 127 against 7.
The Extinct Volcanoes are the elderly statesmen of Philippine Rugby and a number of players representing the Philippine National Men's team.
